American Red Cross lifeguard training provides entry-level participants the knowledge and skills to prevent, recognize and respond to aquatic emergencies and to provide care for breathing and cardiac emergencies, injuries and sudden illnesses until EMS personnel take over. The lifeguard class includes comprehensive training in water rescues, CPR/AED for the Professional Rescuer and first aid skills.

Prerequisites

  • Be at least 15 years old.

For your Shallow Water Lifeguard course module

  • Swim 100 yards continuously demonstrating breath control and rhythmic breathing. Candidates may use front crawl, breaststroke or a combination of both but swimming on the back or side is not allowed. Swim goggles may be used.
  • Tread water for 2 minutes using only the legs. Candidates should  place their hands under the armpits.
  • Complete the following events within 50 seconds
    • Starting in the water, swim 20 yards using the front crawl or breaststroke. The face may be in or out of the water. Swim goggles may be used.
    • Submerge to a depth of 4 to 5 feet to retrieve a 10-pound object.
    • Return to the surface and walk or swim 20 yards on the back to return to the starting point with both hands holding the object at the surface of the water.
    • Exit the water withiout using a ladder or steps.

For your Lifeguard course Module

  • Swim 300 yards continuously demonstrating breath control and rhythmic breathing. Candidates may use front crawl, breaststroke or a combination of both but swimming on the back or side is not allowed. Swim goggles may be used.
  • Tread water for 2 minutes using only the legs. Candidates should  place their hands under the armpits.
  • Complete the following events within 1 minute, 40 seconds:
    • Starting in the water, swim 20 yards. Face may be in or out of the water. Swim goggle are not allowed.
    • Surface dive, feet-first or head-first, to a depth of 7-10 feet to retrieve a 10-pound object.
    • Return to the surface and swim 20 yards on the back to return to the starting point with both hands holding the object and keeping the face at or near the surface so they are able to get a breath. Candidates should not swim the distance under water.
    • Exit the water without using a ladder or steps.

No Cost "Pre-Registration" for the program aids you in selecting your shcedule and training group. And is done prior to Orientation and Swim Test. Contact Aquatic World as soon as possible to select your dates. Program fills quickly.
After Pre-Registration, you have Orientation then your Swim Test. There is no cost up to this point. After completion of the Swim Test, enrollment begins and course fees are due. You will then receive your training materials and group scheduling is confirmed.

Program Policies

Refund Policy – All fees are nonrefundable and no refunds will be issued once fees have been submitted. Class materials and supplies such as course manuals and textbooks, CPR masks and all other class supplies are nonrefundable.

Class Space is Limited - If a registered participant decides to leave the class for any reason, they will NOT receive a refund and will NOT be eligible to transfer to a different class.

No Show Policy – If a registered participant is a no-show and absent from their scheduled class, the participant will not receive a refund of any kind and is not eligible for a class transfer.

Cancelled Class Policy –  Aquatic World, reserves the right to cancel classes as needed. In the event a class is canceled registered participants will be offered a transfer to a different class at no additional charge or a full refund may apply.
